Suspected assailants behind Gen Katumba’s shooting sent to prison

Ssembuba Hussein Ismail and Nyanzi Yusufu Siraji have today been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder by the Makindye magistrate court.

The two suspects are accused of being behind the June 1, 2021, targeted drive-by-shooting that left General Katumba Wamala injured while his daughter Brenda Nantongo and his driver Haruna Kayondo dead.

These same suspects are also believed to be attached to the assassination of the last late AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi

The suspects have been remanded to Kitalya prison till August 3, 2021. It has also been reported that private CCTV cameras that recorded the General’s attempted assassination have been stolen by thugs.

“Today, 28/06/2021, two suspects who are part of the assailants behind the targeted drive-by shooting, that caused the double murder of Nantogo Brenda and Haruna Kayondo and the attempted murder of Gen Katumba Wamala and his bodyguard Sgt Khalid Koboyoit have appeared before the Chief Magistrate Court, Nakawa.

“The two- Ssembuba Husein Ismail and Nyanzi Yusufu Siraji, are charged with two separate counts of murder and two accounts of attempted murder. They were remanded to Kitalya Prison till 3.08.2021,” – Uganda Police.
