Violators of Covid-19 guidelines to pay fines to gov’t

Here are new strict COVID-19 measures as stated by President Museveni

With the number of Covid-19 cases increasing in Uganda, the government has decided to put restrictions back in place to reduce the virus’ spread. 

President Museveni addressed the nation yesterday evening and introduced a second lockdown which saw schools, prayers in churches, and mosques among others suspended for 42 days.

He insisted that Ugandans must observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put by the Ministry of Health which include wearing of masks, social distancing, and curfew, or else they face fines inform for money which will be directly paid to the government treasury bank account.

He stated that arresting the violators will congest prisons. 

“Why to fill prisons with the violators, they will start paying whenever they are caught violating those guidelines,” Museveni stressed. 

As of Sunday 6th June 2021, the Ministry of Health reported that Uganda had a total of 52,935 cumulative Covid-19 cases and 383 deaths.
