NRM's Anita Among declared new speaker of 11th Parliament

Bukedea District Woman MP Anita Annet Among has today afternoon been declared the new speaker of the 11th Parliament replacing late Jacob Oulanyah. 

Among those who has been the deputy speaker has garnered 401 votes defeating her competitor who is the Bugiri Municipality MP Asuman Basalirwa who only got 66 votes.

468 people voted and one vote was declared invalid.

Asuman Basalirwa – 66

Total MPs that voted 468

Among was the National Resistance Movement – NRM flag bearer while Basalirwa the opposition flag bearer.

The deputy speaker seat has officially been declared vacant and will be filled soon. The new speaker, Among will oversee the elections of her deputy. 

The elections took place at Kololo airstrip and were presided over by Chief Justice Olweny Dollo and attended by President Yoweri Museveni.
