EXCLUSIVE: Museveni rejects lockdown request by Health Ministry

Reports indicate that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has told off Ministry of Health officials’ a few hours before his Saturday national address on COVID-19 that they should forget about locking down the country again.

Sources say that in the meeting Led by Dr. Monica Musenero and Diana Kanzira Atwine at Statehouse, Museveni warned them how a lockdown will affect the already struggling economy threatened by aid donor cuts.

 “You asked for 6 months we gave you a full year, now what are u telling Ugandans?” – Museveni asked MOH officials.

Sources revealed to Boom.ug that the president agreed not to put the country on lockdown though he said we should learn how to leave with the virus because it’s here to stay.

“Lockdown is not a solution anymore but we should learn to live with the virus. People should observe SOPs,” – Museveni was quoted saying.

The president told the committee not to play with Ugandans who are trying to earn a living through hustling and there’s no food to give them while on lockdown.

Musenero and Atwine reportedly kept quiet.

A total of 44,594 virus cases and 361 deaths have been recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
