Uganda police are in possession of four men suspected of hacking into Gen Salim Saleh’s account and tried to steal his money.

The suspects who include Isma Katende, Yahaya Mawejje, Mukasa Tukiko, and Ssemwogerere Steven according to Charles Twine Mansio the Criminal Investigation Division spokesperson tried to steal shs43million from Saleh’s DFCU bank account.

“It is alleged that on 16 April 2021, the suspects hacked into Gen Saleh’s email account and gave an express instruction to the bank manager to effect payment on telephone numbers 0704799395, 0707382702, 0750669242, and 0705588790 through the bank to wallet facility,” Twine said.

Atwine reports further that upon DFCU bank manager receiving the email, he became suspicious since Saleh had never conducted business with the bank in such a manner hence contacting him.

“Upon verification with Gen Saleh about the email transaction, he confirmed to the bank that the email was fraudulently sent and instructed that the transaction be cancelled. Through his Military advisor, a case file was opened at Special Investigations Division (SID) and the investigations commenced until the suspects were arrested,” Twine reported.

According to Twine, the suspects have so far been found with 613 fraudulently registered sim-card as well as laptops. 

Saleh is the coordinator of operation wealth Creation and brother to head of State Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
