COVIDEX real price revealed

National Drug Authority (NDA) has today June 29, 2021, approved the use of COVIDEX, a local drug to work as a supplementary medicine in treating COVID-19. 

COVIDEX made by a renowned researcher in herbal medicines, head of pharmacy at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Professor Patrick Engeu Ogwang is believed to help in the fight against COVID-19 which sent the country is the second lockdown after the second wave.

While speaking to Journalists, Mr David Nahamya the Executive Director of NDA said that they approved the drug after various inspection and assessment.

“After engagements, the innovators have removed unsubstantiated claims that the product treats and prevents Covid-19 and revised it to supportive treatment in management of viral infections. NDA has granted COVIDEX an approval based on initial assessment, published literature and safety studies conducted by the innovator,” Mr Nahamya said.

However, he noted that COVIDEX does not cure COVID-19 but can supplement medicine being used to treat the deadly virus. 

Nahamya also called upon Ugandans to report any side effects caused by the medicine adding that the Authority shall continue to monitor its safety.

According to Professor Patrick Engeu Ogwang COVIDEX costs about UGX3,000 ($0.8) a unit pack, while a seven-day supply is UGX 21,000 ($6).

However, analysts’ believes the price to go high after its approval by NDA.
