Uganda COVID-19 burial team survives angry mob after being caught burying an empty coffin (Video)

News coming in from Kasese indicates that the COVID-19 burial team allegedly from the Ministry of Health were caught red-handed by the locals burying an empty coffin.

In a video circulating on social media, residents and relatives of the deceased are heard demanding the burial team to view the body before it’s lowered to its resting place.

However, the team turned them down but they insisted hence using force thus alleged that to open the coffin only to find it empty.

The ministry is yet to respond to the circulating video but initially government had taken up the burial arrangements, to guarantee safe and dignified burials, commonly used when dealing with highly infectious diseases.

However, last year in November, the ministry of health issued new guidelines allowing families to bury their loved ones that succumb to COVID-19.

The burial teams are only meant to just disinfect the body of the deceased and wrap it in a burial bag before handing it to family members for burial.
