Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng confirms COVID-19 is back, positives cases surge

Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has announced that the deadly disease COVID-19 is back in Uganda.

COVID-19 hit the world in 2020 and ever since different countries worldwide have undergone different phases of lockdown.

Many people lost their lives due to COVID-19 and it spreads at a very rapid speed.

Through her Twitter handle, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng said Uganda has started experiencing a high increase of COVID-19 patients compared to the stable trends of last months.

“We have started experiencing an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases compared to the stable trends we observed since January 2022. This increase is similar to the rise we faced in June 2021 when the Delta variant was prevalent,” Dr. Aceng tweeted.

“However, as a country, we are well prepared to respond and save lives than before. We have no indication for travel restrictions, or lockdown in the current circumstances. We will optimize the existing control & mitigation tools at personal & community levels.

“These measures include: vaccination for all individuals, wearing of face masks at all times, especially for the vulnerable population and, hand washing. Keep safe and keep Uganda safe. It’s possible!” She added

Health Minister Dr. Jane Aceng however told Ugandans to start observing SOPs and wearing masks and that they shouldn’t be worried about the lockdown.

“No. There is no plan for lockdown. We will continue to optimize the current prevention and control measures such as adherence to SOPs like wearing off face masks/ and hygiene and vaccination against COVID-19,” Dr Aceng.
