Katongole dies mysteriously on his way to receive MP Zaake’s COVID-19 relief food

Grief and pain surrounding the residents of Katanga Kibibi Garage B LC1, Busimbi sub county Mityana Municipality after a man Identified as Thomas Katongole alias Kawanga died while on his way to pick food from Gombolola Grounds provided by the area, MP Zaake Francis. 

According to residents, Katongole died due to hunger after starving for days following the lockdown imposed by President Kaguta Museveni which saw his source of income (Markets) closed.

“Katongole was working in mobile markets and when president Museveni suspended them, he had nothing to eat. He had been starving alone. When he heard that MP Zaake was giving out relief food, he forced himself to walk to have something to eat.

Unfortunately, he collapsed about half a kilometer to the distribution venue,” Ssaazi Kelement one of the deceased’s neighbors said. 

However, Margeret Ssematiko, the Chairperson of Kibibi Garage B said they are waiting for a postmortem report to confirm if Katongole died of hunger or other illnesses.

“….some residents said he died of hunger but we cannot confirm until postmortem is out,” She noted. 

Katongole was among the 700 vulnerable residents of Mityana who were picked by their MP to receive food which included a bunch of Matookez 5 kgs of maize flour, 8 kgs of rice, and 100,000 each.
