FUFA officially confirms former skipper Denis Onyango’s return to Uganda Cranes

Denis Onyango out of retirement, back in the Uganda Cranes

Earlier today, Former Uganda Cranes captain and goalkeeper, Denis Onyango posted a tweet on his Twitter handle confirming he’s out of retirement and is back to play for the national team.

The good news excited many in Uganda since the team has been struggling to find his replacement.

In a tweet, Onyango who currently turns out for Mamelodi Sundowns said “Uganda Cranes, guess who’s back?!!..”

Onyango retired from the national team in April 2021 at the time penning down a letter to the federation.

Today evening, the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA confirmed the skipper is back in the Cranes poles.

“We are glad to have you back in the @UgandaCranes,” FUFA posted.

Boom Sport understands that FUFA will tomorrow Thursday, November 18, 2022, hold a Special Press Conference to officially announce the legendary Goal Keeper’s return in the Uganda Cranes.

Onyango helped the Cranes qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations – conceding only two goals in six matches in their qualifying group.

He started his career at Nsambya FC, SC Villa in Uganda before joining St George in Ethiopia, Supersport, Black Aces, Bidvest Wits, and Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa.

He made his first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in the 31st edition, hosted by Gabon from 14 January 2017 to 5 February 2017.
