King Saha runs to court as UMA, sets strict demands ahead of election (See document)

King Saha runs to court as UMA hints on Online voting, sets strict demands ahead of election (See document)

Singer Ssemanda Mansour aka King Saha is not contented with the way Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) elections process is being conducted.

UMA elections are scheduled for May 23, 2022, and campaigns ongoing. However, King Saha who is in close competition with incumbent Cindy Sanyu has through his lawyers written to UMA revealing that he is discontented with the manner in which the whole election process is being handled

According to the document addressed to UMA by Saha’s lawyers, he is demands UMA electoral body to display the voters’ register for scrutiny update and verification by all stakeholders and the general public.

Saha also demands that UMA should halt their plans of holding online voting and streamline the whole process to ensure a free and fair election.

“We are advocates for MR. SSEMANDA MANISUL alias KING SAHA., hereinafter referred to as our Client, on whose instructions we address you as hereunder:
As you are perfectly aware our Client is a Presidential Candidate in the upcoming elections for Uganda Musicians Association.
Our Client has just learnt that you have scheduled Presidential Debates on the 20th and 2Ist day of May, 2022 and, set 23rd of May, 2022 as the polling day. He has further established that you intend to conduct the elections online.
TAKE NOTICE that our Client is discontent and aggrieved by the manner in which the whole process is being handled which has tainted the said exercise for the following reasons;
a) To date, you have failed to avail our Client with the voters’ register.
b) You have failed to display the voters’ register for scrutiny update and verification by all stakeholders and the general public.
C) There are no reasons, whatsoever, for conducting the elections online and as such. our Client objects to online voting.
d) Without prejudice to paragraph ‘c’ above, you have failed to conduct civic education for purposes of equipping the candidates and voters with technical and basic knowledge regarding online voting.
e) You have tailed to establish measures to ensure credibility of online polling or to guarantee a free and fair election generally.
THE PURPOSE HEREOF is to demand that you display the voters’ register for UMA and avail the same to our Client; halt your plans of holding online voting and streamline the whole process to ensure a free and fair election”,

Who is eligible to vote?

  1. Make sure you’re in the register first.
  2. Only one of your numbers is allowed to vote.
  3. If you are rejected, please try your other number, it may be the one that was uploaded to the voting register.
  4. All positions that are unopposed were not included.
  5. If your registration is not associated with Western, Eastern, or Northern, those options will not be visible to you. Basically, the regional positions are only visible to those who are registered under the regions. Anyone registered under central can’t see the other regions.
  6. During this test voting stage, the votes you cast won’t count because the system shall be wiped clean before the election date.
