Veteran band singer Sophie Gombya has been a hard working woman away from the microphone and the COVID induced lockdown has re-emphasized her zeal to earn a penny away from the stage.
The singer who is known for her hits such as “Spare tyre” has opened up a restaurant to make more money.
Sophie has also been in the fabrics business selling baby clothes, a business she has passed on to her biological children.
Speaking to NBS TV, the singer revealed that she is currently selling food and juice, saying she also does deliveries.
“Before COVID-19 came, I already had my side hustle. Music wasn’t my only source of income. I was into events management and making cakes. I was busy throughout.
“I thank God. I won’t say that COVID-19 did not affect me. It affected us all. I had to be flexible and venture into my side hustles. That’s how I survived,” Sophie Gombya:
“Musicians or celebrities in Uganda live the best and expensive lifestyle. To maintain this lifestyle, you have to be with different sources of income,” Gombya said.
Gombya called upon other artistes to not just sit around and cry about the situation but you work towards bettering themselves, with or without the microphone.
