Hamza Ssebunya trashes Shiekhs' claims that he violated Ramadan after Dubai trip with Rema

Singer Rehema Namakula’s husband Hamza Ssebunya has come out to trash as false and untrue claims by Muslim religious leaders that he violated the Ramadhan fast by taking his wife on a romantic escapade in Dubai. The pair flooded social media with photos of them having fun on the Arab sand dunes on a giant motor machine among others, which sparked condemnation from the Muslim community.

A couple of weeks ago Hamza, his sisters, and mother, Rema and daughter Aamal Musuuza flew to Dubai in celebration of Rema’s 30th birthday, throwing a lavish celebration and splashing cash.

Last week a number of Muslim clerics including Shiekh Umar Swidiq Ndawula aired their complaints against the act, saying it is in violation of the true meaning of the holy month of Ramadhan which should be characterised by prayer, deprivation of food, pleasure and total submission to Allah.

News has been all over social media where it has been claimed that Hamza and Rema forgot about fasting and concentrated on showing each other affection.

“I can’t blame anyone we all can learn Islam from one person but understand it differently.”

According to him, he only travelled with his family just like any other person would, which shouldn’t call for such fervent criticism.

“But I don’t expect to have committed any sin by being with my wife and my people.  And By the way in this life there is no person who is holy. If there is anyone who got annoyed by our actions, I think I just wanted to make my wife happy,” He has said.

Additionally Hamza believes that people travel everyday in and out of the country.

“People are always travelling, I don’t think I’m the first one to do so, or my wife’s first time to travel or even my sisters.

It was only travelling like any other person can travel with their wives and I travelled with my wife, sisters and mothers.” Hamza stated further.
