The traffic police have given Boda Boda riders a 3 days ultimatum to process driving licenses and gain crash helmets or else face arrest beginning Thursday this week.
Faridah Nampiima the Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP, and the traffic police spokesperson said a number of Boda Boda were arrested last week for lacking driving licenses and crash helmets.
She revealed that from January 1 to 8, 2023, traffic police operations against offenders of road rules and regulations led to the arrest of 730 motorcyclists who did not have crash helmets, 292 were arrested for not having driving licenses, and 179 were captured for carrying more than one passenger.
Siraje Mutya the Boda Boda leader from Kampala central division unveiled that they have played their role by senstizing riders about respecting road rules and for they will not sympathize with anyone who will be arrested for lacking a driving license or crash helmet.
“We cannot keep begging people to respect traffic rules. We have done our part to help them to face the police. We shall not feel pity for anyone. We have done our part to help Boda Boda riders.” He said.
